Couples Counseling

Relationships matter deeply, and when they feel strained, the distress can be overwhelming. Many couples come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns of conflict, distance, or misunderstanding, often repeating the same arguments without knowing how to change them. My approach to couples therapy is grounded in attachment and emotionally focused work, which views relationship struggles not as failures, but as understandable responses to unmet needs for connection, safety, and reassurance.

Rather than focusing on blame or “who is right,” we look together at the cycle that keeps you both feeling disconnected. These cycles often develop over time as each partner tries, sometimes desperately, to protect themselves or the relationship. One person may pursue closeness while the other pulls away; one may become critical while the other shuts down. In therapy, we slow these patterns down, make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface.

As we work, we focus on the emotions and needs that drive these cycles. When partners feel safer expressing vulnerability, new moments of understanding and responsiveness can emerge. Over time, couples often find they’re better able to reach for one another, respond with care, and repair conflict in ways that strengthen trust and connection.
